There’s a new way to get discounted deals and it’s called Amazon Local. Have you heard about it yet?

There’s no surprise really that finally another big brand name coming into the daily coupon market – and that’s a good thing for consumers in this cash sucking local economy.

Anything that brings great local deals to the attention of those of us looking for a bargain is a good thing. It’s not just you noticing the pound doesn’t stretch as far as it did last year so every penny counts.

The Amazon Local business model was trialed in London it all started around August 2012. Amazon daily deals are emailed to those who have signed up to the the local deals website.

There aren’t the amount of local deals that you get at Groupon available yet, but I guess it’s just a matter of time before local businesses realise they can easily advertise these products or services free of charge at AmazonLocal – so spread the word “there’s a new deal to be had in town”

  Right now the best deal on Amazon Local seem to be get away breaks with 2 night stays coming in at well under £100 nationally. The shopping section is a bit of a non started unless you’re looking to educate yourself in some way – All I would buy there would be the personalised photo canvas.

That’s a pretty cheap price … I paid £59 for a 70×50 at one of those isle mobile stores at the CMK in Milton Keynes. There’s only 1 Healthy & Beauty deal on the Amazon daily deals UK site which is a hell of a lot different to their daily deals US site.

Last month my mother passed away at Cynthia Spencer Hospice after fighting cancer for 29 years. I still haven’t really got to grips with everything yet. In fact it was my mum who inspired me to start Northampton on the cheap in the first place!.  It was clear to anyone who came into Mum’s house that she loved flowers and along with all the other arrangements I had to organise funeral flowers.

I didn’t really have a clue where I was going to order the funeral flowers from and did a bit of searching online trying to gauge what was available. There were more Northampton florists than I thought! Not really up for the task on my own.

You see I had visited Amsterdam with mother a couple of years earlier, her highlight of the trip was going through the 1000′s of different bulbs at the flower markets. Mum would have flowers she would love lay besides her that was all I knew I wanted.

I was lucky my ‘auntie Polly’, and one of mums closest friends ‘auntie Betty’ offered to go and help me chose the flowers, all I knew was that mum didn’t like lilies.

The day came to go and visit the flower shops of Northampton and Polly picked up Betty and drove down to my house.  We all jumped into the car and off we went. Heading for Kingsthorpe I asked auntie Polly where we were heading? She told me that one of her friends ‘Pip’ always gets lovely flowers from a place up on the Harbour Rd and Pip says that they are very reasonably priced.

Northampton Florists Homeland

Past the park and just before the Fox and Hounds pub we see a few flowers outside what seems to be a house. “That’s  it” say’s auntie Polly and I persuade her to park in the Fox and we walk next door to what indeed could be mistaken as a plot for a residential home if you didn’t have your eyes peeled.

As we turned the corner off the path it was obvious this was no residential house as we looked towards what seemed to be   rows and rows of flowers for at least 40 yards. As we entered the first Northampton florists on the list, I saw dressed bunches and pretty flowers peeking out of their boxes. I was quite thrilled with the find of such an array of flowers.

As I walked further I could see there was a counter at the end. I headed straight there and left the 2 women wandering through the colourful isles. Once at the counter I was greeted by a woman with a pleasant smile who asked me if I needed any help. I explained the purpose of our visit and asked is she had any brochures I could look at? I could see behind to her left was another woman working away arranging a large bouquet. The woman at the counter asked if the brochures were there, and promptly went to fetch them.

I looked around and saw even more displays of colourful beauty, in particular my eyes were drawn to a slim tall clear glass vases with a dressed arrangement. The vases were at least 20″ tall with the most wonderful display of what I can only describe as amazing! I later found out that the flowers & vase were only £10! Even more amazing, by this time I already I wasn’t going to go visiting ay more Northampton florists!

By now my 2 companions reached the counter as well, and the Homeland florists lady returned with 3 brochures full of wonderful funeral floral arrangements. We picked our arrangements, wrote our cards to go with them and paid up.

All very happy with the choices we’d made, It was on our way out that I spotted what looked like a water garden feature, let’s have a look I said and we went through a small doorway. I really didn’t expect to see what I saw. and again I could feel a smile coming across my face.

There was a post directly in front of me with many beautiful looking flower arrangements floating on top. as I looked closer I saw at least half a dozen rather large fish in there too, there were of course lots more plants and some that made me feel rather hungry too! Auntie Betty bought a few plants for own garden.

We all went off to the car thinking that Homeland florists is surely the best kept secrets of Northampton Town. Well I thought I’d try to do a little something about that as they really made my day. Highly recommended, and on the day I know that my mother would have loved the flowers we received. Thank you Homeland florists of Northampton, I’ll be popping in from time to time…
